Perast is an old baroque town located 12 km northwest of Kotor beneath the hill of St. Ilija (873 m), in the area which separates the bay of Risan and Kotor bay., opposite the sea gorge Verige. With its historic monuments it is classified to the list of UNESCO's "World Natural and Historical Heritage Site". Special attractions are the two islands with chapels in front of Perast St. Djordje Island with the church from the XII century is natural. Right next to it is the Island Gospa od Skrpjela (Lady of the Rocks) with a church of the same name, and it is an artificial island.

The island Sveti Djordje (St. George Island) was and still is an inspiration to many artists, such as: Bocklin, Milunovic Mestrovic, Stanic, Prijić, Đuranović From it they painted Perast, Gospa od Skrpjela (Lady of the Rocks), Stoliv, Verige, Svetu Nedjelja. The islands were also admired by famous writers like Byron, Stendhal, Pierre Loti, Arthur Miller, Hemingway, Simo Matavulj, Vuk Karadzic, Danilo Kis, Ivo Andric, Branko Copic.

The island St. Djordje (St. George Island), a natural island and the church of the same name, is also the oldest religious object in Perast. Gospa od Skrpjela (Lady of the Rocks) is an artificial island built by permanent leveling and filling stones and soaking old ships around the cliffs that existed there The legend tells that once upon a time two Perast fisherman on the rocks in front of the city, where later became an island, found the icon of the Virgin Mary (Mother of God) with Christ. 

The event named "Fasinada" which is organized on July 22, celebrates discovering a picture "Gospa na hridi " (Lady on the rocks) and marking the beginning of building the island Gospa od Skrpjela Every year on that day people from Perast with their boats bring the stones and sink them around the island. This custom is symbolic to compensate the stones that sea takes away. Ancient memories to the beginning of century long efforts needed to form the island with the plateau where is rising the current church,.are preserved in its simplicity. On the island Gospa od Škrpjela is situated a museum with rich lapidarium.   

As another attraction of the coast towns such as Kotor, Herceg Novi, Tivat, Perast are the palaces with a strong cultural, historical, artistic and architectural values ​​that represent one of the most important segments of the cultural heritage. These representative houses, in the best way, testify about the level of social, economic and cultural development and talk about the culture and lifestyle of a whole region. There are 19 palaces in Perast. Most of them were built during the seventeenth to the eighteenth century and have Baroque characteristics.
